Het paramyxovirus serotype 1, is verantwoordelijk voor paramyxovirose bij duiven. De symptomen bij paramyxovirose zijn zenuwverschijnselen, veel drinken en waterdunne mest en stoornissen aan de veren. Bij de zenuwverschijnselen zien we draainekken en trillen met de kop en ook pikken de duiven naast het voer. Verder kunnen de duiven zeer veel gaan drinken en waterdunne mest produceren. Dit noemt men ook wel polyurie-polydipsie, oftewel veel drinken, veel plassen.
